This is because UHT milk has a longer life span, which could guarantee milk supply during dry seasons, explains the report in All Africa.

According to a study carried out by dairy consultants Innocent Rutamu and Frederick Mwangi, the great advantages of UHT milk are that is can be transported long distances and stored without the need of expensive refrigeration. UHT milk does not need refrigeration and can be stored at room temperature for about 6-9 months.

Mr Rutamu explained that UHT milk production fits well with the current state of Rwanda's dairy sector, which has limited infrastructure.

The study also found that there is surplus milk production in different parts of the country and during the wet season, while it is scarce during the dry season.
