FMD Breaks out in Taiwan

TAIWAN - The veterinary authorities have informed the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) about an outbreak of Foot and Mouth disease (FMD).

The Taiwanese veterinary authority sent an Immediate Notification dated 23 June to OIE.

The notification describes one new outbreak of FMD in Dayuan township in T'ao Yuan in the north of the island. It started on 9 June in a herd of 888 pigs, of which 37 were affected but none died.

The last report of FMD on Taiwan was on 23 May 2009.
