The Fiji Trades Union Congress president, Daniel Urai, told The Fiji Broadcasting Corporation that dairy farming should be expanded in this area.

Mr Urai said that he was aware that talks and reports had confirmed that the best conditions for dairy farming may be in the west. Currently the majority of cows are kept in wet and swampy conditions. Mr Urai said that by moving cows to dry land, milk production could increase three fold, as cows are in less stressful conditions.

The government have promised to offer special concessions to dairy farmers to set up the dairy industry in Fiji so that importation of overseas milk could be reduced to save foreign reserves.
