The Federal Veterinary Office has called on livestock farmers to vaccinate stock through a mandatory programme.

A successful vaccination plan last year meant no recorded cases of bluetongue in Switzerland in 2009.

Despite the government calling for vaccinations to be carried out between February and May in 2010, over 7000 producers have refused to vaccinate.
