Dairy Farmers Association spokesperson Vijendra Prakash says farmers are asking for an increase so they can make some profit, said RadioFiji .

Mr Prakash says high production costs have taken their toll on the industry.

‘The money that we receive per liter of milk which is 55c, 4c is deducted for transportation, left is 51c. With high cost of milk, high cost of supplementary feed and other things that has gone up this year by more than 100 per cent, it is not meeting the overhead that is coming into farms and therefore farmers are in fact not making any money. If the farm gate incentives are not coming this year than it is very important for farmers to call for the high prices of the product'.
