FMD Breaks Out in South African Buffaloes
SOUTH AFRICA - The country's veterinary authorities have reported two outbreaks of foot and mouth disease in cattle.

The World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) received follow-up report no. 3 on Tuesday, 10 May. According to the report, the affected population comprises buffaloes at a cattle farm in Kwazulu-Natal.
A total of 19 buffaloes were found susceptible to the outbreak, out of which 13 cases were identified. No deaths were recorded, and no animals were destroyed.
According to the OIE, although some NSP ELISA tests were positive, most NSP ELISA test results were inconclusive. SAT 1 virus was isolated from cattle samples from the outbreak area and SAT 3 virus was isolated from buffalo samples from a nature reserve in the outbreak area.
The source of the outbreaks remain inconclusive.
