Animax Doubles Manufacturing Capacity
UK - An animal health company, which produces the only leaching slow-release trace element bolus on the market, is poised for major expansion. Animax Ltd, which manufactures the Tracesure range of boluses, will double production following the acquisition of a second factory neighbouring its existing facility at Stanton, near Bury St Edmunds.

Veterinarian Les Porter, who found the company in 1982, says the increased production capacity will enable Animax to keep pace with demand for its products from farmers within the global market in which the company operates. It will help create jobs as well as allow Animax to “remain at the forefront of our sector,’’ he adds.
“The number of vessels used in the production of our boluses has increased eightfold in the last five years. At the present rate of increase we are anticipating a minimum of doubling in the immediate future. The additional factory means that our growth is no longer restricted.’’
Mr Porter says a point has been reached where trace elements are becoming a major market sector in animal health. “Farmers are realising that leaching bolus technology is an effective and safe means of getting correct doses of essential elements into ruminants,’’ he explains. The purchase of the new site marks a major leap forward for the company. Despite the global recession its turnover has increased year on year. Two years ago the company employed a manufacturing workforce of 37 and it now has 83 staff employed in production.
The Animax range of slow-release boluses is the result of years of research and today the boluses remain the only leaching product on the market.
Mr Porter, who was previously veterinary technical manager for Bayer, says he is delighted that sales of the boluses go from strength to strength. “It gives me great satisfaction to grow the business in a vibrant market. I wouldn’t want to miss out on what we are doing now for anything.’’
Animax Ltd also produces the only UK-manufactured sheep dip, Paracide 62, and is heavily involved in the research and development of new products and concepts targeting the animal health sector.
