UFU Reacts To Milk Auction Result
NORTHERN IRELAND, UK - The Ulster Farmers’ Union (UFU) has reacted to the latest result from the United Dairy Farmers Milk Auction. The milk price was up slightly to 29.53p per litre, based on 41 million litres sold for September delivery.UFU Dairy Policy Committee Chairman Andrew Addison said; “This month’s result is a further sign of continued market stability and this stability allows dairy farmers in Northern Ireland to plan for the future."
“Demand is still strong in the global markets, this coupled with reports from the Southern hemisphere that much of their production for the rest of 2011 is already committed to buyers means that in the short term the outlook is positive."
“My hope is that this trend will continue and if it does, I would expect to see continued stability in the milk auction price with perhaps a further nudge up in prices. A stable price is always crucial but more so now when input prices continue to rise and as dairy farmers look to the future.”
