Australian Heifers Help Build Kazakhstan Industry
AUSTRALIA and KAZAKHSTAN - Angus heifers will be sent to Kazakhstan under a new deal between South Australia and the former Soviet republic to help kick start the country's cattle industry.ABCRural reports that four hundred heifers will be flown to Kazakhstan in November and a further 2,100 between May and October next year.
Senior consultant Sean Miller, from Rural Solutions SA, says it's an opportunity for Australia to showcase the high calibre of our Angus cattle, saying the demand is because of its high value beef and disease-free status.
"We have a fantastic genetic resource that is effectively untouched by a lot of the common diseases that the other parts of the world have," he said.
"The injection of some high quality cattle is an avenue for us to provide an over the fence view of what could be possible in the future."
