Biomin Seminar in Serbia Focuses on Ruminants
SERBIA - On March 22nd BIOMIN’s distributor Vinfeed (Dr Marina Vranjes) organized a seminar for Serbian beef cattle and dairy producers.The seminar which took place in Novisad attracted more than 40 people who followed all lectures very attentively and contributed to the discussions after each presentation.
Onno Breitsma (Ruminant Technical Manager, BIOMIN) introduced BIOMIN´s Optimizer Concept to the audience. In his presentation he underlined the clear relation between economical necessities and physiological requirements of dairy cows for successful milk production.
The ruminants expert concluded his talk with 4 key points:
- Lowering feed cost is not the goal, higher profit is;
- Feed is always cheaper than milk;
- Cows will produce more, when they eat more;
- Staying consistent is the key
Furthermore, Onno Breitsma provided some insights into optimizing calf rearing through the use of phytogenics (Biomin® P.E.P.).
Anja Ganner, PhD (Product Manager – Yeast, BIOMIN) showed in her presentation „Autolysed yeast for ruminants“ the differences and huge advantages of yeast cultures versus live yeast with the so called rumen simulation system (Rusitech) and in vivo trials with fistulated Holstein heifers.
Dejan Lazic, DVM (Vinfeed doo) focused in his lecture on BIOMIN´s Mycotoxin Risk Management in dairy cows, which is an important part of the Optimizer Concept.
Yunior Acosta Aragón, PhD (Product Manager – Preservation, BIOMIN) introduced BIOMIN’s new software, OptiSil, which enables users to assess their silage quality. He also presented BIOMIN’s Silage Expert Kit (SEK) – a set of tools and simple methods for evaluating silage quality. He concluded that everybody can preserve the energy in the silage, which is a prerequisite for high yielding cows.
