Farmers on Border Urged to be Vigilent for FMD
COLOMBIA - Farmers in Aracua, Colombia are being urged to apply rigorous sanitary measures and control the smuggling of cattle from Venezuela to prevent foot and mouth disease (FMD) entering the country. With evidence of Venezuelan cattle smuggling, Mr Salazar said that Colombians must be on the lookout to ensure that their herds remain healthy and disease free.
He said that regrettably someone had authorised FMD vaccinations to be suspended for a short time as leverage. He will be meeting with farmers in Arauca and the government this week to discuss the issue further.
