Farm Supports Lead to Rise in Dairy Farms
UKRAINE - As part of government agricultural policy 68 dairy farms were constructed in 2012 with 202 other enterprises receiving rebuilding and development grants.
Andrew Hetya, Director of Livestock at the Minister of Agriculture and Food, said that the national herd has grown to 633.9 million (up by 3.2 per cent) and the development of farm businesses shows the impact of farm supports across the country.
The highest growth in cattle numbers was seen in the Poltava region (10.5 per cent). Other areas that saw considerable growth this year were, Khmelnitsky (9.7 per cent) Vinnytsia (9 per cent), Kiev (8.5 per cent), Ternopil (6.5 per cent) and Volyn (6.5 per cent).
