Raw Milk and Cream Push to Help Health
ITALY – Raw milk consumption is set to rocket following a ministerial order from Renato Balduzzi, Health Minister.
Issued in 2008, the directive urgently demanded government measures to increase production, marketing and sales or raw milk for human consumption.
Raw cream was also included in the directive. The goal was to achieve high health for consumers through the qualities provided by raw milk.
Labelling amendments have been called for by Mr Balduzzi. Raw milk is to be marketed as a ‘product to be consumed without pasteurisation’ which will extend to vending machines.
Control will be enforced meaning labels show production date and date of expiration which is not to exceed three days after milking. Laws that currently restrict school canteens and the catering industry from selling raw milk will be reviewed.
