Groups Collaborate in Food and Rural Development Scheme
DOMINICAN REPUBLIC – The food industry and agricultural sectors are expected to benefit from collaboration between two production development agencies.

Food security, agricultural development, bi-national development are the goals laid out following a meeting confirming the collaboration between the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA) and the United Nations Organisation for Food and Agriculture (UNOFA).
This was unveiled at a meeting this week headed by group representatives Manuel Sanchez (IICA) and Gero Vaagt (UNOFA).
Efforts are mounting in the country to push agriculture forward in the aftermath of the Haiti earthquake disaster.
The meeting mentioned previous successes of FAO initiatives in developing rural industries including forestry, agricultural extension, tele-food projects and food security.
IICA progress included organic agriculture, strengthening quarantine standards and reinforcing the dairy supply chain.
Developed from an agreement in Argentina in 2012, the programme’s broad aims are to promote resource use, therefore achieving the common goals of the two organisations.
