Several south american countries shared information and experiences of BSE (bovine spongiform encephalopathy) control in a meeting headed by the US Department of Agriculture.

Possible regional strategies were developed for the countries represented; Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Paraguay and Uruguay.

The scope of Argentinian action on the disease – where there have been no recent cases- was explored by TSE programme leader for Argentina, Ximema Melon.

The event, held in Rio de Janeiro in Brazil aimed to bring together specialists and policy advisors to work on a scheme to generate greater awareness of BSE.
