Cattle Affected by FMD Outbreak in Zimbabwe
ZIMBABWE - The Zimbabwean veterinary authorities have reported an outbreak of foot and mouth disease with an unknown serotype in Matabeleland North, affecting cattle herds.

The FMD outbreak was initially observed on 25 April and confirmed on the same date after tests were run. The World Organsation for Animal Health (OIE) was immediately notified on 30 May.
A total of 1908 animals showed signs of susceptibility, out of which 20 cases were reported. No deaths were recorded and no animals were destroyed.
According to the OIE, illegal movement of cattle from Tsholotsho district (red zone) for relief grazing has been identified as the major cause of the outbreak.
Several control measures have been put in place to control the situation within the area.
