More Grass Benefits Ecology As Well As Cow
DENMARK - Growing more grass benefits cows as well as biodiversity, Danish researchers have found.By growing organic grain in grassland soil, farmers risk losing 36 per cent of plant species richness as opposed to relying on natural vegetation.
Furthermore, grassland has been found to contain 33 per cent more species in ecological farmland where fertilizers are not used and natural vegetation is encouraged.
This is product of researchers from Aarhus University who have been using a calculation method developed in England to investigate the effects of quantities of grass in cow rations.
