Disease eradication, calf health and better beef and dairy marketing could all boost sector profitability, says the Ministry of Agriculture (SAGARPA).

Timely vaccine provision and Brucellosis are two major issues at the top of the government list.

More state subsidies going into cattle farming should be a priority, said agriculture minister Francisco Gurria Trevino on Monday.

The ministry also wants more milk to be pasteurized. Government officials called on processors to collaborate on dairy food safety as a benefit to all consumers.

Calf nutrition was discussed. Better feeding of youngstock could result in higher weight gains per day averages, said the committee.
