FMD Outbreak in Guinea Affects Cattle of All Ages
GUINEA - The Guinean veterinary authorities have reported a further outbreak of foot and mouth disease in Mandiana, affecting cattle of all ages.According to Follow-up Report No. 1 sent to the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) on 18 March 2014, a total of 235 animals were found susceptible, out of which 11 cases and one death were reported. While no animals were destroyed, one animal was slaughtered.
Contact with infected animals at grazing/watering has been identified as the main cause of the outbreaks.
Several measures, including treatment of affected animals (disinfection of ulcers and treatment with oxytetracycline 20 per cent) have been applied to contain the situation.
