Test Tube Milk Can’t Beat the Real Thing
NEW ZEALAND – Farmers needn’t worry about test tube milk products threatening the dairy industry yet, Federated Farmers of New Zealand (FFNZ) has assured.

News from Ireland that synthetic milk products are being refined will not beat the ‘real thing’ FFNZ has said this week.
“Milk is much, much more than collecting up the constituent parts and running it through an industrial process as if it’s cola,” said FFNZ dairy chairperson, Andrew Hoggard.
“You cannot beat the real thing proven by millions of years of mammalian evolution.”
He cited recent developments in understanding the molecular qualities of milk and it’s ‘highly geometrically ordered structure’ when being digested.
“This could not only spur on completely new milk products but revolutionise the way drugs are delivered, with milk perhaps used as a carrier,” he explained.
Mr Hoggard reasoned that, just like synthetic alternatives to wool, any test tube milk product, ‘should not be called milk at all’.
Likening milk naming to the defence of the word Champagne, he added: “If anything what this test tube product proves is that we seem to be moving further and further away from understanding the huge effort which goes into quality primary food production."
