Funding Package Hopes to Specialise Colombian Milk
COLOMBIA – Colombian dairy farming is to have its technical assistance strengthened to the tune of 6 billion pesos, says the Ministry of Agriculture.A collaborative agreement between Colombian and New Zealand governments will assign the money – worth US$3.04 million – over the next four years.
More professionalism within the sector, public and private funding for research and general modernization were the focus of a ministry meeting last week.
Of Colombia’s 6 billion litres produced annually, almost half is still from non-specialist dairy farms with 51 per cent coming from ‘formal’ production.
Sector employment is at 720,000 jobs.
