EU Milk Production Hits Lowest Level Since End of Quota
EU - EU milk production this June fell to its lowest daily rate since milk quotas were abolished, according to UK levy board AHDB Dairy. This is the second consecutive monthly decrease in seasonally adjusted milk production.
July’s official EU28 figures are not yet available but there are strong indications a further slowdown is expected. The UK, Poland and Denmark have all recorded year-on-year reductions for July and decreases are also expected in the two largest milk producing Member States, Germany and France. Production in Ireland and the Netherlands is still running above last July, but both have slowed considerably in recent months.
The EU has just finalised the details of its scheme to pay farmers to reduce milk production, which could lead to further reductions over winter.
