Bovine TB Outbreak Reported in Hadarom
ISRAEL - Dr Shlomo Garazi, Chief Officer for Import and Export of the Veterinary Services at the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has reported an outbreak of bovine tuberculosis at a farm located in Hadarom.

The World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) received an immediate notification on Thursday, 11 January.
The report states that the outbreak was initially observed on 11 November 2017 and confirmed last week (10 January) after a tuberculin test was carried out at the local laboratory.
A bacteriological examination is also being conducted at Abu Kabir of the Ministry of Health but the result is still pending.
A total of 584 cows have been found susceptible to the outbreak, out of which 19 animals were found to have been affected.
According to the OIE, a foreign worker began to work in the farm and was diagnosed as sick with tuberculosis.
It is not known yet if it is M. bovis or M. tuberculosis. Following this information, the Veterinary Services made a skin tuberculin test in the herd, out of which 19 of the cows were found positive.
The OIE reports that the positive cows will be culled and samples will be taken to try to isolate the bacteria.
Some of the control measures applied to contain the spread of the virus include:
- Movement control inside the country
- Surveillance within containment and/or protection zone
- Quarantine
- Official destruction of animal products
- Zoning
- Vaccination permitted (if a vaccine exists)
None of the affected animals have received any treatment and an additional measure to be applied is selective killing and disposal.
