dsm-firmenich’s leading lifecycle assessment (LCA) platform, Sustell™ has been updated to facilitate improved environmental footprinting for dairy farming. The new release further improves the Sustell™ experience, enabling users to navigate the complexity of dairy operations by providing greater flexibility in how to account for the different dairy life stages and farm ecosystems

The latest upgrade allows users to gain more detailed insights into their current environmental impact while offering comprehensive visibility for modelling multiple interventions for footprint reduction. Building on Sustell™’s existing intervention functionality users can develop even more credible, transparent and detailed improvement roadmaps.

David Morris, Global LCA Director at dsm-firmenich Animal Nutrition & Health, comments, "With this Sustell update, we enable dairy value chain players to not only have a clear, credible and complete environmental footprint across all 19 environmental impact categories, but we also help to unlock value creation opportunities such as access to sustainable finance, ecolabels and carbon value monetization that accompany sustainability improvements.”

The new module aligns with the latest Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and International Dairy Federation (IDF) guidelines, while continuing to maintain ISO accreditation and synchronisation with EU Product Environmental Footprint (PEF) calculation methodologies. The updates also provides access to GFLI and Agri-Footprint 6.3 feed ingredient databases, including other ingredients like roughages and silage, providing seamless data connectivity to leading, cost-effective feed formulation software via API links.
