Ulster Farmers’ Union President Kenneth Sharkey welcomed another significant increase in prices at this weeks Northern Ireland milk auction. The average price for milk sold reached 26 pence per litre, over 8 pence per litre higher than the corresponding auction last year.

Kenneth Sharkey said; “Prices at the milk auction continue to rise dramatically, reflecting a buoyant global market for dairy products. This is good news for the local dairy sector, but there is now a strong expectation among producers that these higher auction prices find their way through to farm gate prices immediately. Farmers are currently receiving farm gate prices in the region of 16 to 17 pence per litre. With auction prices now reaching 26 pence per litre, we must see a significant lift in producer milk cheques”.
