Welcome lift in Milk Auction prices
UK - The continued rising milk price from Thursday’s United Dairy Farmers’ Milk Auction will be welcome news to Northern Ireland Dairy farmers who have been challenged by the recent inclement weather conditions and increasing costs of inputs required to produce milk, the Ulster Farmers’ Union said today.UFU, Deputy President John Thompson welcomed this week’s further increase in prices at the Northern Ireland milk auction. The average price for milk sold reached 28.71 pence per litre, almost 11 pence per litre higher than the corresponding auction last year.
John Thompson said; “Prices at the milk auction continue to rise significantly, reflecting the buoyant global market for dairy products. This is good news for the local dairy sector, but there is now a strong expectation among producers that these higher auction prices find their way through to farm gate prices immediately. Farmers are currently receiving farm gate prices in the region of 18 pence per litre. With auction prices now reaching well over 28 pence per litre, we must see a significant lift in producer milk cheques”.
