The board will put its Real California Milk seal on fluid milk, butter, ice cream and yogurt produced from California dairies. The seal will show up in grocery stores in October.

"The Real California Milk seal is a direct response to a very clear consumer demand for locally produced milk and we are confident it will be embraced by California shoppers, even to the point that they will ask for California-certified milk at their local supermarkets," Stan Andre, chief executive officer of the milk board, said in a news release.

The Modesto-based board will also launch an advertising campaign in October to inform consumers that 20 percent of the milk sold in the state is trucked in from elsewhere. The campaign will expand on the milk board's popular "Happy Cows come from California" marketing plan.
