Mato Grosso do Sul Declared FMD Free
BRAZIL - The Brazilian Government has declared Mato Grosso do Sul a region that is free from foot and mouth disease. The region, that has the largest cattle herds in the country with 24 million head, has been under the shadow of FMD since an outbreak in 2005.
The new FMD free status will lift the ban on trade and movement of cattle from the region.
The Brazilian agriculture ministry is now hoping an inspection by an international delegation in December will clear the way for exports from the region.
