Latvia's Dairy Trade Matures
LATVIA - Latvia's Central Statistical Bureau reports that Latvia exported 152,281 tons of milk, cream and other cultured dairy products worth LVL52.1 million (USD109 million) in 2007, with exports by volume 12.1 per cent higher than in 2006.Exports of cheese and curds totalled 13,592 tons worth LVL28.2 million (USD58.7 million) last year, with exports by volume 10.2 per cent higher year-on-year.
Main export markets for Latvian milk, cream and other cultured dairy products in 2007 were Germany, Lithuania, Netherlands and Libya, with main export markers for cheese and curds being Germany, Italy, Finland and Russia.
Latvia also exported 2,840 tons of butter worth LVL6.42 million (USD13.4 million) in 2007, with exports by volume 12.2 per cent lower year-on-year.
Latvia imported 61,324 tons of milk, cream and other dairy products worth LVL38.2 million (USD79.6 million) in 2007, with imports by volume 18.0 per cent lower year-on-year. Most of these imports came from Lithuania, Germany, Estonia and Poland.
