As a result, a number of Chinese delegations are planning to attend EuroTier and there will also be a summit meeting focusing on global, European and Chinese pig production premiered at the event.

Earlier this year, the DLG AgroTech Service office in Beijing hosted an international agricultural event featuring EuroTier with government, university and media represen-tatives. An exclusive preview reaching thousands of animal production specialists was held at the China Animal Husbandry and Feed Industry Expo in Xi’An early summer. EuroTier 2008 was also previewed in September to dairy specialists at the World Dairy Expo in Harbin from 7-8 Sep and at a press conference for leading animal production media in Beijing.

“China continues to play a key role in agricultural markets worldwide, notably in the areas of modern technologies for genetics, breeding and animal husbandry as well as for products of animal origin,” says Leely Zhang, Project Manager of DLG AgroTech Service, Beijing, China.

The DLG has teamed up with China Animal Agriculture Association to organise the world’s first Chinese-European Pig Summit at EuroTier on 12 November. Among the presentations are a World Bank review of the global pork market and an overview of Chinese pig production and its future from the China Animal Agriculture Association (CAAA). Also on the agenda: European perspectives provided by the Danish Meat Association and a presentation on the technology needs and trends for the Chinese market. A lunch for speakers and those attending the conference offers ample oppor-tunity for further discussions and networking.

“China is the No. 1 pork producer and consumer on this planet, and feed costs in China are increasing just like everywhere else in the world,” says Leely Zhang, Project Man-ager of DLG AgroTech Service, Beijing, China. “The Chinese pig production sector is currently being significantly developed and attracts more and more public attention for future development with its need to cope with both global and domestic challenges. Optimal solutions to such challenges may be found at a global level and especially at gatherings where experts and decision makers from all over the world meet and dis-cuss the future.”

Delegations from China

The CAAA is planning to bring over a delegation of around 100 animal production spe-cialists including dairy and pig experts from research and development, breeding com-panies, integrators, farms and veterinary medicine manufacturers. They will all visit EuroTier to establish European contacts and foster potential trade opportunities as well as acquire information on the many innovations relevant to China’s animal production sector. The delegation includes high-ranking officials from the Ministry of Agriculture and from provincial decision makers.

Additional Chinese associations from the dairy sector plan to visit EuroTier for an in-sight into professional dairy production technologies and modern management suitable for the Chinese market. Aspects of special interest include milking robotics, cattle breeding and feeding solutions but also advanced bioenergy technology. Efficient pro-duction of high quality dairy products is a key priority.

DLG’s subsidiary, DLG AgroTech Service, opened last year and continues to strengthen the relationship with Chinese agricultural players.
