Stagnant Milk Prices Draw Protests in Czech Republic
CZECH REPUBLIC - Farmers in the Czech Republic are to take to the streets in protest against stagnant milk market prices which they believe are the fault of lawmakers and government.

Farmers gave up a planned protest in front of retail chains they talked about some time ago. The milk market stagnates and due to the low farm gate prices, cattle stocks in the country are in danger, reported Prague Daily Monitor, earlier today.
"Producer price of milk in the Czech Republic is currently the lowest in the EU," Veleba told CTK, adding that there is a danger that 6,000 people will lose jobs due to the liquidation of cattle bred for milk.
"This is the result of increasing imports of dairy products and the permanently defensive agricultural policy of the Czech government," he said.
According to Prague Daily Monitor, agriculture Minister Petr Gandalovic promised to farmers last week that within Czech EU presidency, he was going to propose to the EU introduction of a subsidy for exports of milk and dairy products to third countries.
