Groceries Supply Code of Practice Comes Into Force
UK - Following the launch of the Groceries Supply Code of Practice (GSCOP), UK Government will now conduct consultation on how it should be enforced.

Ulster Farmers' Union (UFU) Deputy President John Thompson said: “The establishment of the GSCOP follows a lengthy investigation by the Competition Commission. Whilst helping to bring us one step closer to achieving a fairer supply chain, any GSCOP will be useless unless an independent supermarket ombudsman is in place to enforce it. The UK government has accepted the Competition Commission’s recommendations which included the establishment of an ombudsman to police the grocery supply chain. We urge Government to make this a priority in order to protect the needs of consumers by safeguarding local production creating more choice at affordable prices.”
“The UFU wish to commend the Competition Commission for conducting such a thorough investigation and hope the UK Government will now follow through with all its recommendations. Brussels is also looking at this issue to create fair relationships in the supply chain. This is an opportunity for the UK to lead the way, to promote sustainability and proper relationships within the wider food supply chain and we hope our Government will take up the baton.”
