CME: EU Milk Deliveries Up 2.2 Per Cent This Year
US - September milk deliveries in the EU-27 were 11.1 million tons (24.4 billion lbs.), up 1.5 per cent from a year ago, according to Eurostat, writes Alan Levitt.

That leaves year-to-date output up 2.2 per cent
from 2010 levels (see chart).
In the first three-quarters of the year, EU exports of
SMP were up 27 per cent and whey exports were up 13 per cent. Cheese exports were flat, while
butterfat and WMP exports were down 18 per cent and 10 per cent, respectively.
Over the last two months, EU butterfat prices have plummeted by 10-15 per cent, but SMP
and WMP prices have stabilised.
“Milk production in Western Europe is starting to
show more signs of seasonal increases,” says USDA’s Dairy Market News.
“Although
overall volumes remain low, milk intakes at some plants are starting to increase.”
Meanwhile, “buyer interest has slowed” as buyers work off existing stocks through
the year-end holidays, DMN says.
“Stocks of all dairy products are generally available
for both domestic and international buyer interest,” the report adds.
In October, New Zealand’s exports of milk powder, butterfat and cheese were down 15 per cent from the prior year. Shipments of WMP to China were
down 44 per cent and sales of butterfat to India were zero after topping 5,600 tons (12 million lbs.) in October 2010.
