Uruguayan Dairy Exports Strong
URUGUAY - Uruguayan dairy exports grew 42% in sales in January compared to same month of 2011, with foreign exchange earnings of US $ 54.1 million, according to the National Milk Institute (INALE).The main reason for this was a huge increase (72%) in volume exported, reports El Observador.
The product with the highest growth in export volumes was the nonfat dry milk (NDM), totaling 3,068 tons, 339% more than a year ago. The average price was US$ 3,808 a tonne, 15% more than in January 2011.
Cheese exports topped 3,263 tons, whole milk powder 3,161 tons and, finally, butter 1,501 tonnes.
In January, Brazil was the main destination of Uruguayan exports of dairy products, with 31% of total turnover.
