High Number of Rabies Deaths to Date

BRAZIL - To date there have been 41 outbreaks and 47 deaths of bovine rabies in Parana, Brazil this year. This large number of cases so early on in the year is of some concern to the Ministry of Agriculture.

The official responsible for the rabies sector in Parana, Elzira Pierre, has requested that producers inform officials when they identify the first symptoms of the disease in their animals. For the time being, Londrina is free of the outbreak. Rabies is transmitted by bats that feed on animal blood. Last year, more than 120 cases of the disease were registered in Parana.
