Brazil Increases Imports of Milk Products

BRAZIL - Total imports of milk products into Brazil increased by 111 per cent in March 2012.

The total amount of imported dairy products was 19,003 tonnes, representing US$55.79 million.

Of this, 8,961 tonnes was milk powder.

Of the milk powder supplied, 2,438 tonnes came from Chile. Chile's share of the Brazilian market for milk powder increased from seven per cent in February 2011 to 27 per cent in February 2012.

The main supplier of milk powder, Uruguay, reduced exports of milk powder by 28 per cent. Argentina maintained its 43 per cent share of Brazil's milk powder imports.
