FMD Breaks Out at Gaza Strip
PALESTINIAN AUTONOMOUS TERRITORY - Dr Khawla Salem Njoum, Director of Epidemiology Department, has reported an outbreak of foot and mouth disease in the Gaza Strip, at a farm located 3 km from the Egyptian border.

The World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) received an Immediate Notification yesterday, 19 April. The outbreak was initially observed on 9 April, and confirmed on 19 April. The affected population comprises cattle.
Out of 120 cattle, three cases were identified. No deaths were reported, and no animals were destroyed.
The herd containing 120 fattening calves was imported a month ago from Australia through Israel, where they were in quarantine for 20 days. There is another farm with 400 heads infected with FMD O serotype near the farm.
Introduction of new live animals and legal movement of animals have been identified as the main causes of the outbreak.
Several measures have been applied to contain the situation.
