Of this, there is estimated to be €400 million of damage to farm structures.

Nearly a million wheels of Parmigiano Reggiano and Grana Padano cheese have been destroyed, at a value of €250 million.

Confagricoltura, which represents farmers, said that the situation was a true disaster, which greatly affects the profitability of dairies and milk producers, but also the economy as the two protected designations of origin products are invaluable to the Italian industry.

There are also reports that milk yields have fallen on many farms, likely due to the stress the animals were put under and are still under due to damage to housing.

Fruit storage, vinegar and wine production has also suffered.
