During the meeting, Minister Isabel Garcia Tejerina reviewed the Department's efforts to rebalance the value chain of milk and milk products, with the view of helping farmers deal with the increasing costs of feed.

It is hoped that by September, regulations will come into place to strengthen the position of dairy producers when it comes to negotiating prices with processors.

Cabinet approval is expected next month on a law that would balance production costs across the supply chain.

The Minister also reiterated her commitment to negotiating with the European Commission for market measures to aid struggling producers.

In addition, Arias Cañete from the Spanish producer organisation UPA said that a campaign will soon be launched to control the quality of bulk milk sold in Spain.
