Drought Affects FMD Vaccinations Schedule
BRAZIL - This summer's drought in North Eastern States has impacted on the Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) vaccinations schedule, causing it to be altered.
As promised, the Brazilian Veterinary Service has announced a defining strategy for the implementation of the 'second stage' FMD vaccination programme.
The strategy considers the drought in north eastern states this year and consequently the Ministry of Agriculture has delayed second phase FMD vaccinations in the north eastern states until January 2013.
In Rio Grande do Norte, vaccination has been extended until the end of December to ensure all producers can vaccinate their animals safely.
The government is confident that vaccination set backs will not effect their targets of achieving FMD free status in 2013.
The ministry has reassured that the Forest areas will have their vaccination processes carried out this month.
