Production of Grana Padano cheese was down 4.51 per cent for the first quarter with output for March down 2.58 per cent. In all this equates to 12,000 fewer Grana Padano cheeses last month.

However, analysts at the IDA say that first quarter output improved after initially being 5.6 per cent down.

The IDA has reassured that 2012 was anomalous because of 'oversupply' from farmers during a record year and have reassured that first quarter output for 2013 is up 9.18 per cent on the same period in 2011.
