Joint efforts will take place to assess deformed calves between the Food Safety Authority and the National Veterinary Institute. This, the authorities hope will allow a clearer picture to the extent of the spread to be attained.

The calf, belonging to a herd near Grimstad in the south eastern region of Aust-Agder was diagnosed as SBV affected last week.

Surveillance found that 17 per cent of 2400 herds in southern Norway were infected last year by doing milk sample analysis.
