Tariffs on whey and whey products have been reduced from 28 per cent to ease pressure on the Brazilian dairy sector facing high production costs, according to reports from the US Department of Agriculture.

The Brazilian Ministry of Industry and Commerce confirmed the agreement is for a twelve month period, started on July 30 2013.

The USDA reported the decision was also made to alleviate cost pressure in the Brazilian food sector.

The reduced tariff rate is available on a first-come first-serve basis.
