Inlac data indicates July cows’ milk contracts reached 468,537 million litres for the month, corresponding to 76 per cent of average monthly supply quota.

Sheep milk data reports a similar shortfall. Production reached 31.774 million litres – 70 per cent of average monthly production.

Contractual considerations will be key for the future of the sector following the reform of the supply chain last year, say Inlac analysts.

The Royal decree which formed the ‘milk package’ on 28 September 2012 is making an impact by granting producers more power and resolving supply chain issues.
