State Subsidies Up to 34 Per Cent Rise for Livestock

20 December 2013

MEXICO – Livestock farmers will see a funding boost worth 6.516 million pesos next year, the Secretariat of Agriculture (Sargarpa) has announced.

This is a 34 per cent increase to current subsidies and is, according to the government, to ‘meet challenges’ facing livestock.

Both pig and cattle producers are being assisted in herd restocking and breeding programmes. Production incentives have been included as means of support.

The government has confirmed a 75 million peso Swine Programme Component, in response to calls from pig producers that the industry should have support schemes.

Farms from 40 head and above will be included in the programme.

Ministers intend for the funding to bring far reaching improvements to rural poverty and food security, helping marginalisation in rural areas.
