FMD Outbreaks in Mongolia Affect Cattle Herds

MONGOLIA - The Mongolian veterinary authorities have reported 11 outbreaks Sukhbaatar, Khentii and Dornogovi affecting cattle populations.

According to follow-up report no. 2 sent to the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) on Monday, 24 February, a total of 4611 animals were found to be susceptible, out of which 2492 cases were reported.

Several control measures such as quarantine, movement control inside the country, screening, vaccination in response to the outbreaks, disinfection of infected premises/establishment(s), dipping/spraying and modified stamping out have been applied in order to contain the situation.

A total of 164330, 179723 and 1646403 cattle were vaccinated in Khentii, Dornogovi and Sukhbaatar respectively.

The source of the outbreaks has not yet been determined.
