Farmers will be expected to evidence good agricultural practices, covering all aspects of parlour hygiene and milk storage on farm, extending to equipment maintenance and livestock traceability.

The programme will also require veterinary records of animals under treatment and pesticide records for pastures.

The Ministry of Agriculture has earmarked the major dairy producing regions of Rio Grande do Sul, Parana, Santa Catarina, Goias, Minas Gerais and Mato Grosso as first to come under the guidance of the US$ 25.6 million scheme.

Subsequent funding is to be made available for other regions for projects supporting good agricultural practices.

Farms wishing to enter the programme have until August 15.
