Germans Call For Change to Permanent Pasture Definition
GERMANY – Last minute changes to the European Union's permanent pasture definition were demanded by the German Farmers’ Association (DBV) this week.Current regulation has ‘serious consequences’ for farming and the environment, said the DBV ahead of the EU’s announcements on simplifications to the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP).
In the eyes of the DBV, the rules are ‘profoundly counterproductive’ and ‘totally unacceptable’, failing on ecological grounds.
It called for changes to allow ‘green fodder’ cultivation and fallow crop rotation, insisting that fallow land must not be classed as permanent pasture.
