Vaccines Rolled Out Across Bostwana, Foot and Mouth Cases Mount
BOTSWANA – Ten of thousands of cattle are being vaccinated in northern Botswana to counter a foot and mouth outbreak still spreading across cattle stations.Over 60,000 cattle have been vaccinated in the last fortnight in the Ngamiland and Chobe and a further 10 cases have been confirmed.
This is according to the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE), which has been monitoring the several serotypes of the disease, including two recent cases of serotype SAT 2, detected by inspecting an infected cattle crush.
This was in Malakgakana, within a restricted monitoring zone. Ring vaccination is ongoing in this area.
Eight cases have also been confirmed nearby in Mabudisa, where officials suspect wild animal contact or illegal movement of stock to have caused the outbreak.
