Open Farm Day, set for Sunday, 17 September, is an annual observance where farms across the province open their doors to allow visitors, typically from urban centres who don't have the opportunity to visit a farm, to learn more about how their food is produced.

Myrna Grahn, the Manager of the Bruce D. Campbell Farm and Food Discovery Centre, says special events at the centre will run from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm.

We have a very exciting day planned.

We have a number of new exhibits.

We have Manitoba Beef Producers, Manitoba Pulse has also come in with a new exhibit.

Our centre is a 10 thousand square foot interactive centre so it's inside.

There's also the opportunity to enjoy pork on a bun with Manitoba Pork Council.

They will have lunch around the noon time.

You can also tour through the centre and look into four live windows into our hog barn.

Many people never get an opportunity be able to look in through the windows into a barn so we have that for them.

Throughout the day we will also be giving tours of our dairy barn so they'll be able to go into the barn and see live cows and the baby calves.

As well we have joining us the Manitoba Egg Farmers.

They're going to have their enriched cages for their hens on site and will be able to tour those.

Everyone who comes out can take the tractor and trolley ride and to go out to those two different barns as well as just see how a live operational farm operates.

Ms Grahn notes the Bruce D. Campbell Farm and Food Discovery Centre is located about 10 minutes south of Winnipeg on Highway 75.
